Pious Ministries
Spanish Charismatic Renewal Prayer Group (Maria Siempre Virgen)
The Spanish Charismatic Renewal Prayer Group, Maria Siempre Virgen, holds its prayer meetings on Thursdays from 6:45pm-9:00pm. The regular meeting format is to begin with praying the Holy Rosary, followed by songs, praises, reading of the scriptures, guest speakers, petition, thanksgiving, and intercession prayers.
The Catholic Charismatic Renewal… began in the Catholic Church in February of 1967 when a group of students on retreat at Duquesne University began praying for a fresh outpouring of Pentecost. Many of them had profound “baptism in the Spirit” experiences and they shared these experiences with other [sic] in prayer. They had a renewed commitment to prayer and a personal relationship to Jesus, a yearning for more knowledge in their Catholic faith and to the gospel call to bring the message of the Jesus to others” (https://diolaf.org/history-of-catholic-charismatic-renewal).
At St. Rose of Lima Church, through this ministry, we invite all to experience the Holy Spirit who brings us to Jesus Christ and the love of the Father: “No one can say ‘Jesus is Lord’ except by the Holy Spirit” (1Cor 12:3). According to Pope John II,
The catholic charismatic renewal has helped many Christians to rediscover the presence and power of the Holy Spirit…and this rediscovery has awakened in them a faith in Christ filled with joy (Ninth International Leaders Conference, October 1998).
And Pope Benedict XVI (as Cardinal Ratzinger) stated on EWTN,
The Charismatic Renewal... I think this is a sign of the Springtime and of the presence of the Holy Spirit, today will give new charisms and so on. This is for me really a great hope that not with organization from authorities, but really it is the force of the Holy Spirit present in the people (EWTN, “The World Over,” September 5, 2003; in https://www.catholic.org/vocations/story.php?id=41658).
Throughout the year we engage in many activities approved by the Priest such as retreats for the community during Lent and Advent, vigils (Pentecost), Seminar of Life in the Holy Spirit which takes place for seven Thursdays. Also, we reach out to the larger community on a weekly basis to pray for the sick and help those in need in any way we can.

John XXIII Movement (Movimiento Juan XXIII)
The John XXIII Movement is an international association of the faithful inspired by the principles that emanated from the Second Vatican Council.
It was born in Puerto Rico in the Diocese of Arecibo; created under the pontificate of Pope John XXIII to be "an evangelization movement" and to work mainly for those who are far from the Church and also marginalized from society.
The John XXIII Movement does not work for itself; it seeks to be a ferment and serve as a launching pad for entry and commitment to the Church. It is a movement that, from its origins, goes out in search of the forgotten and the marginalized in remotest places; those who due to their problems and challenges of life feel alienated thinking that the Gospel cannot be preached for them. They need someone to help them find and announce Jesus Christ: this is what the John XXIII Movement supplies.
In fulfilling this Mission, the John XXIII Movement has its own mysticism, a charism, a gift that the Lord has entrusted to it, a spirituality of authentic service, framed in Love, Surrender and Sacrifice and expressed in this option of life: "With Christ All, Without Christ Nothing."
The John XXIII movement meeting is Mondays from 7:00 P.M. – 9:00 P.M. The meeting structure is as follows:
7:00 – 7:30 – Rosary, Initial Prayer
7:30 – 7:45 – Welcome and Announcements
7:45 – 9:00 – Reading of Sunday Gospel, Reflection, and Final Prayer
Currently, we are meeting through ZOOM until the pandemic ends.
Please, for more information, please contact the President via the parish office.
Community of the Neocatechumenal Way (Comunidad del Camino Neocatecumenal)
We are a community made up of 16 brethren from the Santa Rosa de Lima parish, who we have been walking together since 2011. Our main objective is to mature and grow in Faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Through the Neocatechumenal Way in parishes, we are making a path of growth in the Faith, through a system of Catechesis; starting with Baptism, to make the Faith of the Baptized grow; so that their Faith reaches the point where we truly Love each other in a Community, and this Love is a sign for the secularized or the unchurched. In this way and with obedience to the Bishop and our parish priest, we help the Church to form Christians.
The Lord has called us to undergo a journey of conversion through which we discover the immense richness of our faith in post-baptismal catechumenate. During this catechumenate, gradually, stage by stage, step by step, we descend into the waters of eternal regeneration, so that the baptism that the church entrusted to us in the past through our adherence to it, becomes a sacrament of salvation, a good news for all men.
Through the Neocatechumenate, a path of Christian initiation – that develops pastoral work of evangelization for adults – opens in the center of the Parish (especially for 13 years and older). This evangelization path brings to a living faith many of our brothers, who today live a Christianity of routines (“cultural Christianity”), with no intrinsic change or transformation. Thus, allowing many people immersed in a secularized world to have the possibility of meeting Jesus Christ through Christian communities of faith in which they live out their faith on an adult level of love in the dimension of the Cross and in perfect unity.
One of the greatest experiences that we have today and for which we bless the Lord, is to see how God allows us to proclaim the gospel in so many parts of the world. And not only do we proclaim the Kerygma, but a path for the growth in faith fostered within a community appears, and, over time, the parish priest can go from a pastoral focused on the Sacraments to a pastoral focused on holistic evangelization and systematic integration in the fullness of the Church’s life and ministry.
The Neocatechumenal Way is lived within the existing structure of the Parish and in communion with the Bishop, in small communities made up of people different in age, social status, appearance and culture. It is not a spontaneously formed group, nor an association, nor a spiritual movement, nor an elite within the parish. Rather, it is a group of people who wish to rediscover and live the Christian life in all its fullness, to live the essential consequences of their baptism, through a Neo-Catechumenate divided into different stages, such as the Catechumenate of the Primitive Church, but adapted to their condition as people already baptized.
As a consequence, these communities have the mission of being, within the Parish, the Sign and Sacrament of the missionary Church (Synod of Bishops), of opening a concrete path of evangelization for those who are far away, giving to the extent that faith has developed – the signs that call the pagans to conversion, that is, Love in the dimension of the Cross and Unity:
“Love one another as I have loved you. By this they will know that you are my disciples” (John 12:34-35).
"Father, may they be one in us, as you are in me and I in you, so that the world may believe that you sent me" (John 17:21).
At present, our community of the Way in the Santa Rosa de Lima Parish, meets every Thursday to share the Word of God, every Saturday night we receive the Holy Eucharist, and every first Sunday of the month we carry out a Coexistence among brothers.
For more information on those responsible for this community, please contact the group Coordinator through the parish office.
This ministry was formed 14 years ago, in the year 2006 with the commitment of Father Alfredo Ortiz, our pastor at that time. We were a total of 15 but now we are 10 because others moved from the State of Florida.
Our objective is to make the Virgin Mary known under the title, Mary Mystical Rose (María Rosa Mística), and to pray for all consecrated souls. On July 13 of each year we celebrate her with a Mass and then with a party dedicated to her. It has brought great blessings to homes.
Our meetings are rotational, as members take turns to host in their own residence: We meet every 13th of the month in a home of a willing host, to make the Rosary and to pray for our needs and the needs of the world.
Currently, we are meeting via ZOOM until the pandemic ends.
For more information, please, contact the coordinator through the parish office.
